The Institute for Austrian and International Tax Law at the Vienna University of Economics, under the leadership of the renowned professor PhD., h.c. Michael Lang, is one of the world's largest research institutions specializing in tax law. The institute's teaching and research activities are centered around international, European, and Austrian taxation.
The institute's history dates back to 1968 when it was founded by Anton Lager, a former tax inspector who became the first professor of financial law at the Vienna University of Economics. Over the years, the institute has built a strong reputation and is now a member of the EUCOTAX organization, which stands for "European Universities Cooperating on Taxes." This organization includes 12 other universities in Europe and the United States of America.
The institute provides a conducive environment for a wide range of educational activities, including organizing various courses for students, workshops with international participation, moot competitions, seminars, a master's program in international tax law, and various doctoral study programs. Additionally, students and researchers have the opportunity to apply for international mobility programs and research fellowships sponsored by the European Commission and well-known transnational and Austrian companies such as Siemens, OMV, Raiffeisen, TPA Horvath, and others.
