The second AIDP world conference – Bucharest, 18-20 may 2016 (Conferinta)
Abstract
Between May 18-20, 2016, Bucharest (Romania) hosted the Second World Conference of the International Association of Criminal Law (IACL) with the main topic of "The Protection of the Environment through Criminal Law." The conference was organized in collaboration with the Institute for Legal Research of the Romanian Academy (ICJ), the Ecological University of Bucharest, and the Romanian Association of Penal Sciences. This global conference provided a platform for extensive discussions on an issue of paramount importance and relevance.
Environmental criminality is gaining increasing significance, both on a national and international scale. It has already become the fourth most prevalent type of international illicit activity, following drug trafficking, counterfeiting, and human trafficking. Environmental criminality primarily concerns human beings and their living environment, as well as the environment itself, which serves as a fundamental support for all life forms.
Addressing and effectively responding to this issue within the framework of criminal law requires substantial creative efforts and the incorporation of the specific characteristics of this emerging field into the broader context of criminal law.
